In 2001, Sorenson Genomics, built a new, state-of-the-art, high-throughput DNA purification, genotyping and sequencing facility in Salt Lake City, UT. This facility incorporates a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) which makes use of a stringent method of tracking bar-coded specimens or containers through each of the separate robotic processes in the lab. The company has a network of over 3000 worldwide DNA collection sites which can be used to collect DNA specimens for a variety of population genetics studies.

The technical staff at Sorenson Genomics has worked hard to develop test systems and processes that can accommodate a range of project needs from the smallest DNA extraction study to the analysis of many thousands of STR genotypes or millions of SNP genotypes per day. The laboratory is highly automated and is equipped with multiple robotic DNA extraction platforms, liquid handling workstations and DNA analyzers.

IDENTIGENE , a business unit of Sorenson Genomics, has been providing DNA parentage testing, extended family analysis, and ethnic origin assessment services to private companies and individuals since 1993.

As experts in DNA parentage testing, Sorenson Genomics has expanded its services to include more complicated DNA testing applications such as siblingship, grand-parentage, cousin, avuncular testing, Y chromosome and mitochondrial DNA analysis. The company has been providing high-throughput DNA genotyping and sequencing services in 70 different countries and all 50 United States. Recently, Sorenson Genomics has been providing DNA genotyping to assist with determining the identity and relatedness for thousands of Thailand's 2005 Tsunami victims (see press releases).
