Laboratory Accreditations

AABB Accredited (formerly the American Association of Blood Banks)

Relationship and DNA Paternity Testing.  AABB laboratory accreditation applies to test cases wherein the participant's identity and collection of samples is verified by an independent third party via chain-of-custody documentation, thus making the case legally admissible in court. International Organization for Standardization ISO 17025

Relationship and DNA Paternity Testing.  The ISO 17025 accreditation applies to DNA testing and analysis including paternity testing, relationship and other DNA testing services. View the ISO 17025 Certificate and Scope.

NYSDOH Accreditation State of New York Department of Health

Relationship and DNA Paternity Testing.  The New York State Department of Health accreditation includes chain-of-custody requirements set forth by NYSDOH.  Paternity testing in New York requires pysician authorization and specimen collection under chain-of-custody.  View the NYSDOH Certificate.

Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulates laboratory testing performed on humans in the U.S. through the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), to ensure quality laboratory testing. Sorenson Genomics-Identigene holds a CLIA certificate of accreditation for non-waived (moderate and/or high complexity) testing, issued to our laboratory by a CMS-approved accrediting organization

College of American Pathologists (CAP)

The CMS grants the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Laboratory Accreditation Program deeming authority to accredit laboratories against CLIA standards. An internationally recognized program designed to be more stringent than CMS’ regulatory requirements; CAP accreditation helps laboratories achieve the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care.

Sorenson Genomics-Identigene is CAP accredited to perform CT/GC and DNA Specimen Provenance testing.

Quality Standards and Proficiency Testing

Proficiency Testing (PT) is defined as the determination of DNA laboratory testing performance by means of inter-laboratory comparisons, in which a PT program, such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP), periodically sends multiple specimens to our laboratory for analysis and/or identification.  The Human Genomics DNA Testing Laboratory at Sorenson Genomics participates in proficiency testing as administered by CAP, New York State and others. Following the laboratory analysis, the organization conducting the PT program then compares each laboratory's results with those of other laboratories in the group and/or with an assigned value. The Human Genomics DNA Testing Laboratory at Sorenson Genomics participates in proficiency testing for DNA genotyping, paternity testing, and STD testing.

National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST)Traceability

Sorenson Genomics adheres to the National Institutes of Standards and Technology's Standard Reference Materials (SRM) for DNA Analysis to ensure consistent results.

Better Business Bureau

Sorenson Genomics is also an accredited member with A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau of Utah and participates in the BBB Online Reliability program. Our Human Genomics DNA Testing Center Laboratory undergoes regular evaluations by independent auditors to ensure that all our DNA test results comply with accepted standards and practices.
