Sorenson Genomics divides its services
into 4 different categories:
DNA Preparation:
Accepting DNA from blood, swabs, or other sample sources,
Sorenson Genomics then extracts and purifies the DNA for
custom preparation in either 96- or 384-well format. The
DNA can then be stored, amplified, sequenced, or used for
any downstream application required by the client.
DNA
Analysis: Sorenson Genomics accepts DNA samples that
have already been extracted and purified. The lab will group
the samples into 96- or 384-well plates, and prepare the
reactions for sequencing, genotyping, or any other downstream
applications.
Product
Development: Developing new DNA diagnostic, predisposition
assessment, and screening services are just some of the
development projects that Sorenson Genomics has embarked
on. The company welcomes request for proposals from companies,
academic institutions and government agencies.
Human Identity
& Relatedness: Sorenson Genomics, offers DNA testing services
to the general public, medical professionals, lawyers, genealogists
and anthropologists interested in distinguishing probabilities
of relationships or identification between two or more individuals
or specimens.
Accepting DNA Specimens
into the Laboratory:
Workflow is always unidirectional from Extraction
through Detection to ensure that amplified DNA never moves
to upstream processes. This includes specimens, reagents,
and paperwork.
Every laboratory work surface is disinfected
with 10% bleach in water followed by a 100% ethanol rinse
at least once per day. This removes any traces of contamination
from the surface. General protocols require that all surfaces
and equipment are cleaned at least once per day as well
as before and after any operation or process setup.
To assure that we have undetectable levels
of contamination, at least one time per week two separate
surfaces in the Extraction or PCR Setup areas are wipe tested
to check for the presence of amplified DNA.
Accessioning: Mail is received
and sorted by type. Orders and specimens are delivered to
the Accessioning work station.
Envelopes are opened and processed one at
a time. Each specimen envelope or container is labeled with
a bar code and entered into the laboratory tracking system
linking the container to the name on the container.
The Order Form is used to setup the order
in the laboratory tracking system and into the financial
processing system. The identity, ethnicity, and relationship
of each participant are entered at this step in the process.
An Order Number is assigned to the case. This order number
becomes the primary identifier for the case as it progresses
through the system and into reporting.
Each specimen for the case is then linked
to the Order.
Depending on the type of test ordered and
the type of specimens, the specimens are queued for the
applicable extraction process.
